New scale – the half note occurred between the 3rd and 4th tones in the pentatonic scale. That is also why in Guqin, from the 1st string to 7th string can be sing not only “Do, Re, Fa, Sol, La, Do, Re” but also “Sol, La, Do, Re, Mi, Sol, La”.
